According to AutoCar, Volkswagen is planning to bring back the Type 2 Microbus at the next Consumer Electronics Show.

The facts:

  • The new Microbus could be available as early as 2017.

  • Volkswagen plans to announce the project officially at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2016.

  • Volkswagen plans on keeping as many iconic elements of the bus as they can in the new design.

Volkswagen hasn’t officially confirmed this yet, but that hasn’t stopped VW enthusiasts from getting excited to see the return of the beloved VW camper/bus.

The Microbus was introduced in the late 1960s. It’s unique and now-vintage style is still popular today.

The microbus design revolutionized the way the automotive industry thought about vans and busses. It offered more interior space at a smaller, more maneuverable overall size.  


Since the microbus was originally popular in the 1960s and 1970s it is often associated to the social movements and style of that time.
